About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Design Engineer to join our team in Chelmsford or Cambridge. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality highway engineering projects, working closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models, and other relevant software.
  • Deliver work packages, including managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide technical input to project managers, including planning, programming, and cost estimation.
  • Accountable for checking, certifying, and authorizing designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
  • Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages, coordinating engineering resources.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and stakeholders to deliver schemes/projects.
  • Mentor and upskill junior staff, helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs, and production of contract documents across various projects.
  • Contribute to an integrated service to clients, working with the team and other disciplines.
  • Seek innovative solutions to achieve best value in delivering services.

Requirements

  • BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
  • Demonstrable and significant experience in highway design, working in accordance with DMRB and other standards/best practice guidance.
  • Understanding of commercial aspects of project delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and procedures, including departures from standard.
  • NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
