Job Title: Senior Civil Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team at the City of Birmingham. As a key member of our public works department, you will be responsible for designing and developing infrastructure projects that meet the needs of our growing community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct engineering studies to gather data related to existing and proposed infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations based on study results, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Review proposed construction plans to ensure they safeguard public health, safety, and welfare.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Supervise and guide the activities of civil engineers and engineering support staff.
Requirements:
  • Professional Engineering License from the State of Alabama (or a state with reciprocity).
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience assessing civil infrastructure, preparing plans, and managing projects.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering mathematics, structural engineering principles, and construction methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation software.
  • Supervisory or lead worker/team lead experience.
Work Environment:

This role involves working primarily in an office setting with occasional field visits to outdoor worksites. You will use standard office equipment and various equipment related to inspecting construction sites.

Physical Demands:

This position requires sustained periods of light physical activity, such as walking or standing, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 lbs.
