Job Description

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is a leading integrated care provider in England, serving a population of approximately 600,000 people. We are currently seeking a Specialty Doctor to join our Emergency Department team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a medical professional to maintain and enhance their emergency medicine skills and experience. As a Specialty Doctor, you will be part of a vibrant and dedicated ED team, working on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and utilise a minimum of 1 PA per week for self-directed study.
  • Lead by example, manage the sickest patients, engage with juniors to ensure safe and timely management, and work with nursing staff to ensure adequate patient flow.
  • Provide cover when colleagues are on annual and study/professional leave.
  • Encourage and participate in research activities, with limited research funding available for successful applications.

About Us

As a Specialty Doctor, you will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior staff, ensuring standards of care are maintained on the shop floor. You will also participate in the teaching of medical staff and undergraduates, and contribute to clinical governance arrangements in line with national and local guidelines.

Person Specification

  • Completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).
  • At least 2 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) of Emergency Medicine experience and competencies, either as a doctor in training or in the NHS or overseas.
