Darlington, Darlington, United Kingdom County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are seeking an exceptional Gastroenterology Specialist to join our team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. As a highly respected organization, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality clinical care and strive for excellence in patient-focused services.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our dynamic Acute Medicine and Medicine Specialties Teams, which have achieved a 'good' rating from the CQC. With bold aspirations for our patient-focused services, we aim to deliver a true 7-day service, increasing our consultant physician workforce by 50% over the next two years. This expansion will also see a significant increase in junior doctor support.

As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will play a crucial role in providing a comprehensive service of the highest quality. Our gastroenterology team is friendly and enthusiastic, and we welcome interest from candidates with sub-specialty interests in ERCP/EUS, nutrition, IBD, and liver disease.

The basic contract is for 10 programmed activities (PAs), including elective outpatient work, endoscopy, and inpatient care. The job plan is indicative only and negotiable to accommodate your aspirations, special interests, or part-time working requirements. We do not require any G(I)M commitments, and the job plan includes GI bleed on calls.

Your responsibilities will include undertaking clinical work in conjunction with colleagues and other professional staff to maintain and develop gastroenterology services and specialist skills. You will be responsible for planning future developments of these services, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources allocated, and participating in clinical audit.

We encourage research activities as an inherent part of normal clinical duties, and limited research funding may be available for successful applications to the local research and development committee. You will also be expected to meet national requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and attend regular educational events held by the Directorate.

A strong commitment to undergraduate education is essential, and you will be expected to actively contribute to delivering a 7-day specialty service. Deputising in the absence of colleagues, providing evidence of career planning through appraisal processes, and being up-to-date with professional development are also key requirements.

We offer an attractive salary package, including £1100 CPD funding over a 12-month period for up to 10 days study leave annually, which can be rolled over to a maximum of 30 days over a three-year period (£3300 funding).
