About the Role

We're National Grid Electricity Distribution, responsible for the electricity distribution systems across the Midlands, Southwest England, and South Wales. Our teams deliver heat, light, and power to homes and businesses.

The Major Projects team operates and maintains the 132kV electricity network, comprising overhead lines, underground cables, and substations. They also deliver asset replacement programs, network reinforcement, and new connections from 11kV to 132kV.

You'll be based in Derby with flexible hybrid working options. A significant portion of your time will be spent on site across our dedicated distribution license area.

Excellent communication skills are required to work with colleagues and contractors. Time and work management skills are essential to deliver projects safely, on time, on budget, and to a high standard.

  1. Organise individual tasks and monitor finances.
  2. Minimise risks to the distribution network's security.
  3. Identify training needs for yourself and team members, providing training in civil activities.
  4. Recognise performance improvement opportunities and implement changes.
Our Graduate Programme

You'll join an 18-month graduate program with a tailored development pathway. You'll develop leadership, business, and technical skills through in-person and virtual sessions. We provide support from your line manager, 121 coaching, and a mentor to help you transition into corporate life.

All graduates complete the core development program to develop key skills like impact-making, giving feedback, and presentation skills. The Engineering pathway aligns with this role, developing further technical skills and learning modules like working safely.

Requirements

You must have a minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, Sciences, or Data Sciences. You don't need to be immediately graduated; current students can apply.

Hold a full valid UK driving license allowing you to drive in the UK. Be prepared for flexible travel within your role and rotations.

Candidates must demonstrate they can legally work in the UK for the duration of the graduate program.

Location and Benefits

This role is based in Derby with flexible hybrid working options. You'll receive a starting salary of £34,895 with potential bonuses, 26 days holiday, and additional benefits like pension and share-option schemes.
