Job Title: Advanced Specialist Pharmacist - OPAT and Antimicrobials

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Specialist Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy department at The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of a high-quality, safe, and innovative advanced clinical service to Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) and Complex Oral Antimicrobial Therapy (COpAT).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and delivery of a high-quality, safe, and innovative advanced clinical service to OPAT and COpAT.
  • Carry out duties in Clinical Pharmacy Services at ward and department level.
  • Support audit and research within the teams and promote the use of Quality Improvement (QI) methodology at all opportunities.
  • Act as a role model for and be responsible for developing Education and Training with a specific focus in OPAT and antimicrobials for any Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician working within the department.
Person Specification:
  • Honours Degree in Pharmacy / MPharm
  • Registration with the GPhC as a pharmacist
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent (completed both year 1 and year 2)
  • Non Medical Prescriber
  • Member of the Pharmaceutical Society
  • Member of relevant professional clinical groups (e.g. UKCPA)
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Relevant post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Good working knowledge of antimicrobials, OPAT processes, and infection prevention and control
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of documenting in medical notes
  • Supervision of staff
  • Experience of audit
  • Experience of providing education and training to pharmacy staff, nursing, and doctors.
  • Training and mentoring of Foundation Trainee Pharmacists and rotational staff
  • Experience in writing reports and Standard Operating Procedures for new processes
  • Experience of conducting medication error investigations and producing action plans linked to service improvement.
  • Involvement in writing of clinical guidelines and policies
  • Management of staff
  • Experience project management and report writing
  • Ability to take initiative and lead on projects including change management
  • Experience of leading and developing a service within pharmacy
