London, Greater London, United Kingdom National Grid plc Full time

We're National Grid plc, the leading electricity distribution business in the UK. As an apprentice with us, you'll embark on a three-year journey to become a skilled Power Networks Craftsperson.

Your adventure begins with 12 weeks of induction at one of our training centres, where you'll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills, and behaviours. You'll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience in electrical engineering, cable laying, and fault location.

As a Jointer, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining our underground cables, substations, and equipment. Your tasks will include constructing distribution substations, excavating, laying, and jointing cables, and terminating them to plant. You'll also record asset details and positions, locate and identify cables, test insulation, phasing, and continuity, and perform switching operations on the LV network.

To succeed in this role, you'll need excellent communication skills, a willingness to work in all weather conditions, and a strong commitment to safety awareness. You'll be resilient, eager to learn, and passionate about your career. Our minimum entry criteria require GCSE English, Maths, Science, and two other subjects at Grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent qualifications. Alternatively, you can apply with a recognised Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering plus GCSEs in Maths and English.

We offer a competitive starting salary of £17,649, increasing as you become more experienced. You'll receive 23 days' annual leave (26 upon completion of training) plus statutory holidays, a pension scheme with double matching up to 12%, Sharesave options, and an Employee Assistance Programme. Our apprenticeship programme is open to all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, including an existing and valid right to work in the UK.
