Job Summary
Job Purpose:
- Under the management of the Treasury Team Leader, provide a full cashiering service to the Trust, adhering to the Standing Financial Instructions and Procedures.
- Identify and implement improvements to the service.
- Be responsible for the safe-keeping, recording, and reimbursement of patients' property held on behalf of the patient.
- Undertake all petty cash disbursements on behalf of the Trust and refund patients' travel expenses as requested.
- Maintain professionalism and integrity while dealing with irate, emotional, and abusive patients, relatives, and staff.
Main Duties of the Job
- Demonstrate and explain processes and controls to less experienced staff.
- Provide guidance to relief cashiers in resolving issues and identifying priorities.
Income Administration
- Be fully accountable for balancing all incoming cash and cheques and ensure this is banked on a weekly basis.
- Enter all income received into the Trust's General Ledger system.
- Receive payments from staff and patients for official accounts and issue receipts for cheque/cash or credit card payments.
- Collect, count, and reconcile all monies from public phones throughout the Trust and record figures prior to banking.
- Balance daily all credit card payments cleared through the credit card machine and ensure this is receipted on the Finance system.
- Resolve any queries that arise from the above and arrange for any necessary journals to be raised.
- Be responsible for training relief cashiers, ensuring they are up to date with current regulations.
- Raise initial e-proc or stationery requests with Team Support as appropriate in compliance with the Standing Financial Instructions.
- Be responsible for analysing and resolving queries and discrepancies when reconciling floats and financial data.

Job Responsibilities
- Based in the cashiers' office within Derriford Hospital, be responsible for authorising the reimbursement of patients' travelling expenses, keeping records up to date, and verifying the eligibility of each claimant in accordance with Trust guidelines and Government legislation.
- Act as the initial escalation point for disputes regarding entitlement to travelling expenses, escalating to the Treasury Team Leader or PALS where relevant.

- NVQ level 3 in a related subject or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- 5 x GCSE C or above or equivalent, including Maths and English Language.
