The Business Overview:

An esteemed company in Hull seeks an Accounts Assistant to support the finance team. With a workforce of circa 300 and multiple UK sites, this organization has experienced significant growth over the last decade, with a finance team comprising 16 staff.

The Opportunity:

This role combines two essential functions: a traditional purchase ledger clerk, processing c.400 invoices each month on our accounting system, and a finance administration role, including direct debit management, customer contracts, and general administrative tasks.

The Role:

Responsibilities:

  • Process purchase invoices into the Sage 200 accounting system in a timely manner.
  • Create two supplier payment runs each month, with senior management review and execution.
  • Handle internal and external queries, including payment requests, remittance, and authorizations.
  • Manage customer lease vehicle contracts within the Sage system.
  • Coordinate direct debits via the company's solution provider for lease fees.
  • Accurately record contracts and direct debits within relevant systems and documents for team use.
  • Monthly process and check employee expenses using the company's expenses system.
  • Ensure robust internal controls for all aspects of the role, with adequate record-keeping.
  • Perform supplier statement reconciliations, with clear updates on discrepancies or delayed payments.
  • Record monthly transactions on company pre-paid cards, with proper VAT treatment.
  • Jointly manage petty cash on site, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Liaise with other departments to discuss issues, revise processes, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support and work with other departments and employees as required.

The Person:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • AAT qualification or active study.
  • A strong attention to detail, with a background in reconciliation.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Modest analytical skills.
  • Numerate and IT systems background.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function well in a team.
