System Development Engineer, Amazon Payment Products

The Amazon Payments platform supports multiple payment products and processes millions of transactions daily across various countries and payment methods. With over 100 million customers and merchants, our systems handle tens of billions of dollars annually, providing a seamless experience on and off Amazon.

We build systems that offer various payment features and process payments at an unprecedented scale, ensuring accuracy, speed, and mission-critical availability. Our team innovates to improve customer experience globally, supporting currency choice, pay using installments, pay with reward points, in-store payments, pay on delivery, credit and debit payments, seller disbursements, gift cards, and more.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver logical, maintainable, and timely technology solutions to meet defined requirements.
  2. Learn and apply current engineering best practices, such as code reviews, incorporating feedback, and writing clear documentation.
  3. Test solutions and classify, store, and handle data in accordance with Amazon policies.
  4. Actively seek guidance from managers and peers, and apply that feedback to your work.
  5. Participate in team discussions around design, scoping, and prioritization, learning to understand business goals and customer needs.
  6. Ensure solutions address team goals and improve customer experience.
  7. Learn to identify and scope problems, calculate solution costs, and make technical trade-offs.
  8. Assume responsibility for systems you inherit and produce, applying principles of operational excellence.
  9. Understand system requirements, performance properties, and dependencies, and troubleshoot issues.
  10. Remain calm under pressure and know when to ask for help.
  11. Begin learning about customer experience and provide excellent support.
  12. Identify and address operational risks, especially at component level.
  13. Help train and mentor interns, and potentially participate in the hiring process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix.
  • 2+ years of software development and system design experience.
  • Understanding of software architecture patterns and design principles.
  • Ability to write maintainable, tested, and well-documented code.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and take on challenging problems.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
