Palliative Medicine Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Palliative Medicine Consultant to join our team at Princess Alice Hospice. As a key member of our multi-professional team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients with palliative needs.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the weekly in-patient ward round and provide medical leadership as needed.
- Work closely with external healthcare professionals, including GPs, district nurses, and hospital specialists, to provide support, advice, and continuity of care.
- Manage hospice patients within a multi-professional team (MPT) approach, providing urgent and planned medical reviews as needed.
- Complete holistic medical assessments and formulate clear management plans in collaboration with the MPT, patients, and their families.
- Maintain ongoing medical care for Princess Alice Hospice patients, reviewing signs and symptoms and updating management plans accordingly.
- Maintain accurate and clear contemporaneous clinical records, including electronic patient records.
- Provide excellent communication and handover of clinical information to relevant healthcare professionals.
- Attend community MPT meetings and coordinate with colleagues to prioritize admissions and discharges from the in-patient unit.
- Assist with induction, education, and supervision of medical students and visiting doctors as needed.
- MB BS or equivalent qualification.
- MRCGP or MRCP or equivalent qualification.
- On the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine or within 3 months of CCT date at the time of interview.
- Registration and defence union membership.
- Diploma in Palliative Medicine or equivalent qualification.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team and demonstrate leadership when needed.
- Clinical judgement and experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
- Ability to prioritize clinical need and know when to seek help.
- Commitment to clinical governance and improving quality of patient care.
- Experience in teaching, audit, and research.
