About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our Executive team as Associate Director of Science and Technology. This strategic role will provide an opportunity for a world-class science leader to shape and oversee the direction of our largest division.

The successful candidate will lead organisational transformation, workforce planning, and community development, ensuring our team is equipped to respond to external funding opportunities. They will work closely with research group leaders and the wider community to support the growth and impact of marine science and global ocean observing.

The post holder will identify key beneficiaries and stakeholders, both nationally and internationally, and develop and maintain key partnerships. They will also lead the evolution and implementation of our research integrity policy and initiatives.

About You

We are looking for a leader in ocean science research with experience of directing large and complex programmes or facilities. You will need to be able to lead and develop large teams and have a track record of building successful partnerships internally and externally.

To be successful in this position, you will need to be passionate about the ocean and its potential to effect change. You will have experience of driving change and leading on transformation, and be able to demonstrate vision and awareness of the strategic landscape.

You will have exceptional communication skills and a track record of building successful partnerships, as well as being skilled at working in a complex stakeholder environment. Substantial experience in and knowledge of funding opportunities such as those from UKRI and/or the European Commission will be essential.

This position can be based in Southampton or Liverpool, with regular travel to our Southampton site required if based in Liverpool. We have a hybrid working approach, where staff can work from home up to 2 days per week.
