About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with our Waste Team, providing key advice and guidance to our operations, projects, and external business partners. As a Senior Radioactive Waste Management Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant delivery of waste management services, including characterisation, treatment, and storage.

You will be accountable for developing and implementing effective planning and reporting processes, ensuring that our external waste management contracts are technically feasible and support our business strategy. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing waste technical services to our external customers, managing our budget, and ensuring that all BAT decisions are made in accordance with our policies and procedures.

What You'll Do
  • Provide timely, compliant, and practicable advice to UNS, UUK, UCP, and projects on the management and disposal of radioactive waste.
  • Develop and implement sufficient planning and reporting processes to monitor and deliver planned work.
  • Ensure that external waste management contracts are technically feasible and support our business strategy.
  • Be accountable for all BAT decisions concerning radioactive waste made by the Waste Team.
  • Provide waste technical services to external customers in line with contractual and commercial arrangements.
  • Manage our budget and ensure that all waste-related activities are cost-effective.
What You'll Need
  • In-depth knowledge of disposal and treatment routes for wastes in the UK and overseas.
  • In-depth knowledge of characterisation methods, techniques, and processes, as well as a thorough understanding of UK industry good practice and international standards.
  • A thorough understanding of legislation and frameworks that impact waste management in the UK.
  • A degree in a scientific or engineering-based subject.
  • A certificate of competence to act as a Radioactive Waste Adviser.
  • Transport of Class 7 by Road Level 2 or Level 3.

We offer a competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a range of benefits, including:

  • Annual leave starting at 25 days, increasing by one day for every two years of service up to a maximum of 30 days.
