About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Old Age Community team based at Sydervelt Centre, Canvey Island. The team provides services mainly to the Dementia patients and to elderly patients in Rochford, Rayleigh and Canvey Island.

Main Duties

  • Provide clinical leadership for the assessment and management of dementia patients in community and to functional older adult 70+ in the catchment area.
  • Be the Approved Clinician for patients detained under the Community treatment order.
  • Review new patients in a timely manner and oversee the clinical management of patients.
  • Be available for timely meetings, MDT and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Carry out duties as Responsible Clinician, including Mental Health Act assessments, preparation of tribunal reports and giving oral evidence at managers hearings and mental health review tribunals for Patients under CTO.
  • Be actively involved in supporting staff development and in effecting continual service improvement.
  • Provide clinical supervision to the trainees, as well as supervising the specialty doctor.
  • Clinical Audit: Participate in audit to ensure the continuous improvement of the service.

Requirements

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

Eligibility

  • Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
  • Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • On the Specialist Register with qualifications Older Adult/General Adult/Dual trainee.
  • Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.
