About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our team in London. As a key member of our Design engineering activities, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the entire Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) function for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the HSE in Design engineering activities for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Supervise, assign, and schedule work for the HSE in Design team, ensuring timely completion of tasks and projects.
  • Perform discipline reviews and prepare necessary project-specific adjustments and supplements to the discipline-related parts of the standard Aker project execution model.
  • Prepare man-hour estimates, schedules, and meet manpower resource requirements to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure the job progresses as per schedule and meets required quality standards.
  • Maintain contact with clients, project management, and other discipline lead engineers to ensure accurate and timely communications and information flow.
  • Mentor young engineers to develop their Design HSE skills.
  • Work on projects from front-end feasibility to detailed design and modification projects.
  • Support tenders as required.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with UK and Norwegian regulatory regimes.
  • Experience in performing and managing safety analyses, including consequence analysis, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, firewater hydraulic modeling.
  • Experience with technical safety software, including DNV PHAST and PIPENET.
  • Expertise in developing philosophies and specifications, such as active and passive fire protection.
  • Full knowledge of HAZOP, SIL, Design Review, and 3D Model Reviews.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in managing a team of engineers and designers.
  • Experience working in a multicultural, multi-disciplined, multi-site work-share environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with other discipline lead engineers.
  • Experience working with large multinational energy companies.
  • Computer skills in relevant packages, including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing packages.
  • Well-developed report writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Pro-active, goal-oriented, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer focus and ability to consistently meet Aker Solutions and its clients' needs.
  • Ability to effectively manage change to work tasks and the work environment and assist others with adapting to change.
  • Ability to identify issues, problems, and opportunities; make timely decisions; develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.
  • Have initiative and a willingness to learn and continuously improve on performance.
  • Able to work on multiple projects of various size and complexity.
  • A recognized degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience of industry/oil and gas codes and standards, specifically familiar with International Engineering standards.
  • Experience with oil and gas, HVDC converters, offshore platforms, and floating substructures, CCUS, and/or hydrogen.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in the relevant discipline, management, or supervisory qualifications, or equivalent experience, desirable with process safety.
  • Desirable to have registration as a Chartered Chemical or Professional Safety Engineer.
