We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to join our team at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (OCDEM), Churchill Hospital.
The successful candidate will be based in the Human Islet Isolation Facility and will play a key role in the UK Nationwide Human Islet Isolation programme, producing GMP grade human islets for transplantation under the regulation of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA).
As a Research Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects under the supervision of a senior scientist, with the aim of optimising islet isolation and transplantation to reverse diabetes in children soon after diagnosis.
The Oxford Islet Transplant Research Group has international standing amongst the islet isolation and transplantation communities, and the successful candidate will contribute to this research, as well as take responsibility for distributing research grade islets to scientists researching type 1 diabetes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct human pancreatic islet isolation and transplantation
- Contribute to research projects under the supervision of a senior scientist
- Distribute research grade islets to scientists researching type 1 diabetes
- Improve, maintain, and update the islet database
- Record disposal of islet preparations in accordance with HTA requirements
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong interest in islet isolation and transplantation research. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
