Director of Literacy

Ormiston Meridian Academy is seeking an exceptional Director of Literacy to drive literacy development across the academy. The successful candidate will join a highly effective team of senior middle leaders who work closely with the Senior Team to ensure we provide our students with the very best education possible.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement a whole academy literacy development plan, ensuring a clear vision for literacy across the academy.
  2. Lead and support teachers to ensure curriculum intent and implementation prioritizes literacy, with a focus on reading skills for all students.
  3. Model the highest standards of oracy, reading, writing, and SPaG, demonstrating a deep understanding of literacy pedagogy.
  4. Prioritize the reading skills of all students, particularly those who need support to improve their reading rapidly.
  5. Collaborate with the Director of English to take the teaching of literacy across the academy to the next level.

As part of the English team, the successful candidate will work collaboratively and support one another brilliantly. Leaders provide a clear and strategic approach to the curriculum, teaching, and assessment approaches, ensuring new members of the team have schemes of learning and lesson resources to hit the ground running.
