Nuclear Medicine Training Lead

The Nuclear Medicine service is a specialized diagnostic and therapeutic service based across four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, and Birmingham Children's Hospital. The training lead role will be vital in overseeing training provided to the clinical team and supporting apprentices' and trainee staff members.
Main Duties of the Job- Facilitating training within specialities
- Supervision of training clinical staff ensuring provision of effective and efficient training systems
- Liaison with the management team to ensure clinical staff have the ability and resources to carry out training opportunities
- Acting as the clinical staff representative in strategic planning and department performance review
- Initiating and organising audits
- Creating the roster to align with the training needs of the staff across all four sites

- BSc Hons Clinical Technology (nuclear medicine), Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
- Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD).
- Experience of dispensing and administering diagnostic and therapy Radiopharmaceuticals.
- Experience of working within a quality management system.
- Evidence of direct involvement with the technical support for a clinical nuclear medicine department, covering a full range of in vivo and in vitro procedures, therapy applications and radiopharmacy.
- Possess a developed specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging procedures and analysis.
- Has knowledge of NHS working environment within the field of nuclear medicine / PET.
- Has a developed understanding of patient, staff and public risks arising from radiation exposure.
- Has a high level of knowledge of radiation protection and legislation relating to nuclear medicine i.e., Ionising Radiations Regulations, Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations, Radioactive Substances Act, Medicines Act Radioactive Substances, Transport Regulations and Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC) guidelines.
- Experience of working within a quality management system including the ability to take part in the development of a quality system.
- Demonstrates significant experience of providing and delivering teaching, training and assessment of junior staff.
- Able to manipulate scientific data (e.g., to present at national/scientific meetings etc).
- Able to critically analyse patient data and make judgements and decisions on format of investigation procedure.
- Evidence of managing a specialist area, i.e., delivering an unsealed radionuclide therapy service to both in-patients and out-patients.
- Evidence of managing project work.
- Evidence of planning and organising the daily and future workload of a busy department.
- Able to handle complaints from patients, relatives and other staff groups.
- Able to use and manipulate complex software packages for the acquisition and processing of patient data.
- Able to deal with enquiries from patients, medical staff etc relating to diagnostic investigations, results etc.
- Able to deal with terminally ill patients of all ages (including paediatric) undergoing lengthy procedures.
- Able to deal with emergency medical crises including cardiac arrests.
