About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to drive innovation and create high-quality training materials for drivers at Great Western Railway. This involves analyzing, designing, developing, and implementing training content to meet critical project or business milestones. The successful candidate will work closely with the wider operations team, stakeholders, and key functions to ensure that training design and delivery meet industry standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Training Content Development: Analyze and design training content to meet critical project or business milestones, working closely with the operations team.
  • Training Material Evaluation: Constantly evaluate existing training materials through review and verification, and scope new training programs to meet operational requirements.
  • Innovation and Creativity: Innovate to create the best possible training materials and resources, and design and develop training content to meet critical project or business milestones.
  • Project Planning and Control: Ensure effective project planning, control, and monitoring is in place, identifying risks associated with training requirements for projects and providing an analytical appraisal of best practices to meet business needs.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Ensure effective two-way communication with colleagues in the driver training team, project management teams, and relevant stakeholders, actively listening and acting upon ideas for improvement generated by others.
  • Operational Competence Manuals: Maintain high-quality Operational Competence Manuals for all GWR fleets.
  • Safety and Business Brief: Support and create material for the driver content of the Safety & Business Brief to ensure it adequately represents the needs and issues of the driver function.
Requirements
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Be flexible and ready to respond to the demands of a changing business.
  • Operational Training Experience: Have experience in writing operational training documents or other comparable complex procedures for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Relationship-Building and Communication: Demonstrate experience of working with others to deliver results, through effective relationship-building and communication.
  • Industry Knowledge: Be well-versed in GWR and industry operational procedures and processes.
  • Decision-Making and Time Management: Have experience in working to tight deadlines, while being an effective decision-maker.
About the Location

The role will be based in Milford House, but the nature of the job will require attending other locations across the GWR network, including the Driver Development Academies at Reading and St Philips Marsh and Operational Training Centre at Plymouth.
