About the Position


We are seeking a highly qualified Academic Support Specialist to join our team. This individual will be responsible for teaching multiple sections of Spartan Seminars 101, 102, and/or 201, developing and delivering instructions that engage first and second-year students in academic program and learning community activities, assessing and analyzing students' progress in SEM courses, providing guidance to assist students with their academic, social, and personal growth, collaborating with academic advisors to assist with a successful transition to the University, collaborating with learning community liaison and faculty coordinators to integrate learning community experiences, assisting students with establishing academic and career goals during the first and second years, and assisting with planning and promoting department events and activities for first and second-year students.



Required Skills and Qualifications


To be considered for this position, applicants must have a Master's or terminal degree; preferably in science and technology, liberal arts, business, education, and social work academic programs. The ideal candidate will also have considerable knowledge of the mission of colleges/universities, Norfolk State University in particular, as well as considerable knowledge of career support services and organization (on and off campus), first and second-year transitions and experiences, Blackboard usage, organization and time management skills, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work productively with student, faculty, staff, alumni, and employer/industry partners.



Benefits


The Commonwealth of Virginia offers a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to a salary, employees may be eligible for other benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
