Researcher Pool for BBC Studios

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Researcher to join our team at BBC Studios, working on the popular gardening program Gardeners' World. As a Researcher, you will provide support to the production team, conducting research, identifying suitable locations and contributors, and sourcing props for filming.

Main Responsibilities

Conduct independent research to a specific brief, evaluating and presenting information in an easy-to-understand format
Identify suitable locations, stories, and contributors
Liaise with presenters, contributors, and organizations, both in the office and on location
Source props for filming within BBC editorial guidelines
Provide support for the edit, ensuring factual accuracy throughout and tracking down archive from various sources
Contribute ideas for future episodes and assist with general program duties as required

Requirements

Experience working in TV as a Researcher, with knowledge of the production process and technical know-how
A keen interest in gardening, with some knowledge of main organizations involved in horticulture in the UK
Exceptional research skills, with the ability to turn complex information into accurate, engaging summaries
Great communication skills, with the confidence to build strong working relationships with a wide range of contacts
Tenacious, persuasive, and able to find incredible and surprising gardening and flower show/event-based stories
Excellent planning and organizational skills, with a track record of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-turnaround environment
Good team player
Excellent attention to detail and factual accuracy
Ability to plan ahead for all likely eventualities and suggest/implement solutions to potential situations
Experience managing and preparing for edits, with a good working knowledge of the BBC archive systems and copyright law
Desire to learn new technical skills as required
Ability to keep accurate records on a shared computer drive for others to refer to
Confident driving various vehicles with a clean and valid driving license
Able to travel, overnight, and work on location across the UK frequently
