Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Pharmacist to join our Medicines Information team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical enquiry answering services to healthcare professionals and patients, as well as supporting the Clinical Pharmacy team in delivering direct patient care.
Main Duties
As a Medicines Information Pharmacist, you will be responsible for:
- Providing evaluated medicines information and advice to pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, and members of the public.
- Assisting in the production of proactive medicines information to improve prescribing and practice.
- Maintaining contact with specialists and groups nationally and locally to ensure best practice is identified and incorporated into NUH practice.
- Supporting the training and development of junior medicines information staff and Lead Technician, Medicines Information.
- Contributing to a peer review system and assisting with the audit of enquiries in accordance with clinical governance requirements.
Clinical Duties
In addition to your role in Medicines Information, you will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring safe and effective prescribing by undertaking medication reconciliation, assessing suitability of prescribed medication, and enabling patient self-administration.
- Providing medicines for individual patients during their stay in hospital, at discharge, and for out-patient visits.
- Interpreting and requesting clinical tests to monitor and make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of drug therapy.
- Liasing with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe use of medicines.
Person Specification
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Diploma/MSc in clinical pharmacy or other appropriate qualification.
- Wide previous experience in hospital pharmacy, with knowledge of medicines information resources and systems.
- Good interpersonal, negotiating, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and own profession.
- Critical evaluation of literature and literature searching skills for analysing and interpreting medicines information, drug therapy decisions, and patient information.
- Competent ICT skills, with experience of word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and retrieval of information from the internet.
