About the Role

Rugby Health Limited is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team in a clinical support role. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines across our 12 GP practices in the Rugby area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming medication requests from patients, pharmacies, and care homes, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Assist the practice administration team with medication queries, providing excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Liaise with patients to resolve queries and support their use of medication, promoting effective medication management.
  • Contribute to the improvement of prescribing processes in general practice, promoting electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering.
  • Carry out housekeeping tasks, including dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation, to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Utilise and maintain information systems and databases relevant to the position, including incident reporting, medicines optimisation, and prescribing data.
  • Handle sensitive, complex, or confidential information, recording, transferring, and coordinating it in accordance with data protection and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Conduct prescribing audits using GP practice clinical systems, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to clinical audits.
  • Support the role of the Clinical Pharmacist in delivering the Primary Care Networks specification model, contributing to the development of new initiatives and services.
  • Participate in practice meetings, patient participation groups, and other meetings to promote issues relevant to prescribing and medicines optimisation.
  • Be responsible for the organisation and planning of your own workload, meeting set deadlines and undertaking learning and development to maintain required knowledge and skills.

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • Comfortably computer literate with an ability to use clinical systems and Microsoft office packages.
    • Understanding of current healthcare policy within the PCN.
    • Able to analyse and interpret prescribing data.
    • Has attention to detail, able to work accurately, identifying errors quickly and easily.
    • Able to effectively manage allocated resources.
    • Has a planned and organised approach with an ability to prioritise your own workload to meet strict deadlines.
    • Able to think analytically; anticipating obstacles and thinking ahead; using analytical techniques to draw logical solutions to problems.
    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to adjust communication style and content to suit the audience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with team members, patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Influencing and negotiating skills.
    • An excellent understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues.
  • Desirable:
    • EMIS User Skills.
    • Experience of medicines reconciliation.
    • Understanding of community pharmacy systems.
    • Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure to sustain a quality service.
    • Understanding of QOF/PCN DES/IIF.
