Route Development Manager

We are a pioneering tech company revolutionising public transport by making it convenient, affordable, connected and zero-emission. Our mission is to make transportation easier and more enjoyable than owning a car.
Ember has built a platform that coordinates our entire operation – from monitoring vehicles and chargers to selling tickets and calculating ETAs. This enables us to use electric buses intensively, reducing emissions significantly and providing a better passenger experience with innovative features like demand-responsive stops.
The RoleYou will be designing and optimising our route network across the UK and eventually further afield. This requires deep technical skills, strong intuition, operational acumen and genuine transport enthusiasm. Key responsibilities include:
- Researching and developing route ideas: You will go deep on Google Maps, engage with local communities, research existing transport alternatives and figure out what's possible with our existing fleet/charging infrastructure.
- Building timetables: We're not building traditional clock-face timetables, but probabilistic ones that estimate stop usage while accounting for traffic variations. You will build in-house tools or complex spreadsheets to support your work.
- Managing timetable registration and roll out: You will consult with local councillors, register routes with the Traffic Commissioner and ensure data gets to the right people.
- Developing an operational plan: A timetable is just the start. You will develop an operational plan to deliver it, ensuring charging facilities go live, fitting out vehicles, hiring drivers and more.
At Ember, we support diversity and ensure every employee feels respected and able to give their best. We offer flexible working patterns, compassion when needed, enhanced maternity and paternity leave and a commitment to equality.
What's On OfferA salary of £80,000 - £120,000 per annum, depending on your skills and experience, plus share options through an EMI scheme.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of transportation and make a real impact. If you're passionate about transportation, have excellent data skills, can work independently and enjoy getting stuck in, then this could be the role for you.
