Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Paediatric Surgeon to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced surgeon to lead and develop our paediatric surgery services, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing an acute neonatal and general paediatric surgical take, including a substantial quantity of paediatric trauma. They will also be expected to support and develop our service, which consists of neonatal surgery, acute paediatric surgery, and specialised paediatric urological surgery.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To provide a high-quality, accessible consultant-led service in paediatric surgery, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective treatment.
  2. To be up-to-date in child protection training and undertake appropriate review and action on cases admitted during attending weeks.
  3. To take an active role in developing clinical governance initiatives, participating in multidisciplinary audit, clinical effectiveness initiatives, and risk management.
  4. To assist in core clinical workload of the Paediatric and Neonatal Surgical department, working collaboratively with other surgeons and healthcare professionals.
  5. To teach and train junior doctors and medical students in general, specialist, and neonatal surgery, promoting excellence in surgical practice.
  6. To undertake paediatric surgery specialty operating lists and outpatient clinics, including new and follow-up cases, and provide training during some of these clinics.
  7. To participate in the General Paediatric Surgical on-call rota and be responsible for organising follow-up of patients admitted under their care.
  8. To manage paediatric trauma admissions and lead on Trauma MDTs, liaising with adult Trauma teams, anaesthetists, and allied specialist teams.

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Fully registered with the GMC and entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT or CESR (CP) within 6 months of interview.
  • FRCS (Paed Surgery) certification and ATLS/APLS qualification.
  • Membership of BAPS and experience in minimal access surgery.
  • Able to offer prenatal counselling for foetal abnormality and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Experience in managing paediatric trauma at an MTC and ability to work in a team.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is estimated to be around £100,000-£150,000 per annum, depending on experience.
