Job Overview
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust seeks a reputable Gastroenterology Physician to join their esteemed team. As a key member of the Department of Gastroenterology, the successful candidate will contribute to the provision of exceptional care to the county of Shropshire and Mid Wales.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal complaints, encompassing emergency and elective services.
- Participate in the Gastroenterology on-call rota to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Pursue audit and governance initiatives to maintain the highest standards of care.
- Support the training of junior medical staff and other personnel to enhance patient care.
- Conduct administrative tasks to facilitate clinical commitments.
- Engage in the Upper GI/Hepatobiliary Cancer MDT to foster collaborative care.
- Develop enhanced clinical skills, particularly in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
- Exhibit exceptional team-working skills, demonstrating a professional attitude in a multi-professional setting.
- Maintain clinical and quality targets, working in tandem with clinical teams and commissioners.
- Foster continuity of care by following patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Job Plan and Responsibilities
- A formal job plan will be established between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, outlining duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.
- The job plan will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice, including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities.
- The job plan will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external, incorporating personal objectives that align with wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.
A full-time job plan will be based on a 10 PA working week, with the allocation of PAs reviewed annually to ensure alignment with service demands and team job plans.
