We are seeking an Apprentice R&D Technician to contribute to the development of cutting-edge scientific instruments at SPT Labtech in Melbourn. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be involved in the design, development, and testing of instruments used in life science applications.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn various aspects of engineering, including mechanical assembly, pneumatics, electronics, software, and low-temperature refrigeration. You will work closely with the Development team, gaining hands-on experience with prototype and pre-production instruments, and developing skills in operating, testing, fault-finding, and repairing products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manual assembly and electrical assembly
  • Machine operation and testing
  • Liaising with the Manufacturing Department as needed
  • Designing, building, and maintaining test rigs

Requirements:

  • Relevant level 2 or 3 technical qualification (at merit or distinction) or A-levels
  • Good analytical and numerical skills
  • Resilience, determination, and good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 and above, including English language, and STEM subjects including mathematics

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in common Microsoft computer programs such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience with CAD software and 3D printers
