Materials Planner Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Materials Planner to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of our supply chain operations at Octopus Energy Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively monitor and maintain optimised inventory levels to meet production and installation requirements while minimising excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Understand, communicate, and manage risks to minimise their impact on production schedules.
  • Be the main point of contact for suppliers on materials forecasts and operational performance, ensuring timely and accurate order placements, tracking shipments, and resolving any supply issues promptly.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather data and insights for material planning and inventory optimisation.
  • Support supplier meetings and negotiations to ensure demand for materials is met, and resolve any supplier concerns, while evaluating supplier performance in conjunction with key stakeholders.
  • Utilise data analysis tools to assess material usage patterns, forecast future material needs, proactively manage risk of stock-outs, and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of material plans, purchase orders, inventory levels, and supplier information.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in materials planning, demand forecasting, or inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively externally and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organisational, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate tenacity and resilience in driving solutions to completion, proactively addressing supply chain issues and prioritising the customer's needs.
  • Experience with project management and use of MRP software or a Project Management System.
  • Flexible to travel across our operation sites.
