Clark Contracts Limited is a leading main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects. We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team.
Job Summary
The Design Manager will be responsible for leading the design process for our Design and Build projects, ensuring that our appointed design consultants carry out their duties in line with their appointment. The role will encompass input at both pre-construction and construction stages of a project.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the design team and sub-contractors with design responsibility, ensuring that design work is carried out in accordance with company procedures and a high level of professionalism is maintained.
- Coordinate the whole design process, working closely with the client, employer's representatives, key stakeholders, design team, and legislative bodies.
- Chair design team meetings and detail design technical workshops, prepare project reports, sample schedules, technical submittals, and manage the Information Release Schedule (IRS).
- Review design drawings from external design consultants and sub-contractors with design responsibilities to evaluate the most effective design method and concepts.
- Provide technical support across the business and through both pre-construction and post-contract award, and provide quality support on-site inspection and audit reporting.
- Research new products and most effective construction methods.
- Manage the design to achieve given environmental/sustainability accreditations, such as BREEAM, where appropriate.
- Adhere to Health and Safety policies, according to Company procedures.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a Design Manager role for a main contractor, sub-contractor, or having an architectural or engineering background.
- Ability to manage a design team and lead meetings with external and internal members of the team.
- Pre and Post Contract experience in Design Management.
- Proven track record of Risk Management and Value Engineering.
- Experience working in Design and Build projects.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Logical and well-organized with the ability to prioritize.
- Efficient in the use of design software and Microsoft Office Suite. BIM experience preferred but not essential.
- Strong IT skills.
- Ability to work alone and in a team within a fast-paced environment.
- A full understanding of relevant and current construction legislation, regulation, codes of practice, and guidelines.
