Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Information Governance Officer to join our team at the Scottish Funding Council. As a key member of our Information Governance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective management of information and data across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the response to information rights requests, providing advice to colleagues across the organization and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Provide an efficient and effective senior contact point for queries related to information rights and data protection.
  • Ensure staff understand their responsibilities within data protection legislation and information rights, and follow relevant processes.
  • Promote an information governance culture and understanding of data protection compliance throughout the organization.
  • Inform and advise SFC staff on their obligations to comply with the UK GDPR and other relevant data protection laws.
  • Develop and maintain effective coordination and liaison with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ways of working within Information Governance and implement positive change.
  • Manage and advise on internal data protection activities, including Data Protection Impact Assessments and Data Sharing Agreements.
  • Develop and maintain SFC's Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) to ensure accuracy and regular review.
  • Coordinate with Information Governance colleagues to assess and respond to personal data breaches.
  • Identify and implement improvements to data protection and information rights compliance based on user requirements and best practice.
  • Contribute to the Information Governance Oversight Group on data protection and information rights development and compliance.
Requirements
  • Experience of leading and working within data protection and information rights, with evidence of supporting an organization in its compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Excellent understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape of information governance and how it applies to this role.
  • Personal commitment to continuous professional development relating to legislative changes and best practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement when analyzing and responding to complex issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience of drafting reports and policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks and time appropriately.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to work calmly and at pace.

  • Normal full-time hours of work are 35 per week, with flexible working arrangements available.
