About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will work on a domestic cat population related project in collaboration with Cats Protection.

The project aims to increase our understanding of the domestic cat population in UK shelters and develop a methodological strategy for a population census.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, design, and execute a scoping review of current understanding of shelter demographics and processes in the UK.
  • Conduct a systematic review of census techniques to inform the development of a comprehensive UK cat census plan.
  • Collect and manage qualitative and quantitative data, and perform data analysis.
  • Prepare peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and reports.
Requirements
  • PhD qualification in animal behaviour, animal welfare, veterinary medicine, biological science, epidemiology, statistics, or a related subject.
  • Experience in animal behaviour, welfare, demographic, and/or epidemiological studies.
  • Ability to critically appraise scientific literature and apply research methods, data management, and statistical analysis in population research.
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and data management.
  • Understanding of animal demography and potential influencers across different contexts.
