SEND Specialist Tutor Job - 1:1, Exeter

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated SEND Specialist Tutor to deliver bespoke tuition packages on a 1:1 basis to young people with SEND who cannot access mainstream education.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled tutor to support children and young people with SEND in the Exeter area. Many children with SEND have been disengaged from their learning. We support pupils who have struggled to stay in the classroom, feel anxious about attending school, or whose needs are not sufficiently met in school.

As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will create, plan, and deliver tailored lessons to bridge gaps in pupils' education and boost attainment levels. You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way. Your goal will be to support and re-engage a pupil in their learning, offer structure to their daily routine, continue their educational development, and facilitate their return to school.

The tuition will replace school for these young people and is typically part-time, taking place during school hours, five days a week. Prospero will work closely with you to monitor the pupil's progression by requesting weekly reports.

Key Details:

  • Location - Various locations across Exeter
  • Position - SEND Specialist Tutor
  • Type of work - Contract
  • Duration - Until the pupil is able to reintegrate into a mainstream/special school
  • Contract type - Temporary
  • Full-time/part-time - Part time (a minimum of 10 hours per week, per student)
  • Minimum rate of pay - £27 per hour (negotiable)
  • Hours - Working hours can vary, depending on the convenient timings of the family

Requirements:

  • QTS or equivalent
  • Possess UK classroom teaching experience
  • PECS/Makaton training preferred but not essential
  • Be creative, patient, and willing to think outside the box
  • Have experience working with challenging behavior and disengaged pupils

To be eligible for this role, the candidate must:

  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child-related references
