Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Optometric Specialist to join our team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a strong background in optometry and the ability to work independently, providing high-quality care to patients of all ages.

The role will involve working across various hospital sites, including James Cook University Hospital, University Hospital of North Tees, Low Grange Health Village, and Friarage Hospital. You will be responsible for delivering a broad range of highly specialist core optometric services, including diagnostic refraction, independent management of complex specialist medical contact lenses, and low vision rehabilitation.

In addition to your clinical expertise, you will also contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of quality and care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver high-quality, autonomous optometric practice, providing advanced specialist extended clinical roles in areas such as glaucoma, medical retina, cataract, and emergency department
  2. Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures
  3. Participate in leadership and improvement training programs, developing skills in change management and project work

Requirements:

  • Degree in Optometry (BSc or MSc)
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) in line with GOC registration requirements
  • Further developed specialist knowledge and clinical training in areas such as glaucoma, medical retina, cataract, and low vision rehabilitation
  • Experience of shared care/extended role in one or more of: glaucoma, cataract, medical retina, complex refraction, low vision, medical contact lenses, or clinical trials

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, dependent on experience
