Lead Safeguarding Specialist

Oldham Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Safeguarding Specialist to join their Children Safeguarding Unit. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for leading a team of skilled practitioners, including Child Protection Chairs and Independent Reviewing Officers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of Independent Reviewing Officers and Child Protection Chairs.
  • Ensure high standards are met in Child Protection conferences, adhering to government timescales and guidelines.
  • Guarantee Cared for Children Reviews comply with statutory guidance and permanency planning.
  • Support IROs in addressing delays in care plans, ensuring the local authority acts as a responsible corporate parent.
  • Liaise with CAFCASS and Courts to ensure compliance with Court-agreed Care Plans when necessary.
  • Identify areas of concern, challenge practices, conduct practice observations, and participate in regular audits.
  • Develop expertise in specific safeguarding areas to inform policy, practice development, and training delivery.
Requirements:
  • Social Work England registered.
  • Social Work Degree or equivalent.
  • Enhanced DBS.
