Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled Compliance and Data Lead to join our team at United Utilities. As a key member of our Regulation and Compliance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our data.

Your primary responsibility will be to develop and deliver independent and regular data triangulation and cross-checks for key compliance factors. This will involve working closely with our Audit and Assurance teams to identify issues and target their work effectively.

You will also be responsible for conducting additional and differential checks of submission data produced by our Operational directorates, as well as supporting compliance investigations with data analytics as required.

Key Accountabilities
  • Work with our Water and Wastewater Directorate and other relevant teams to identify data cross-check and triangulation opportunities and priorities.
  • Support investigations into compliance issues – delivering high-quality data analysis and checks, making recommendations for improvements where needed.
  • Provide technical data input where required into the development of new processes and procedures to drive compliance and transparency.
  • Support compliance-related deep dives with data analysis.
  • Support the Head of Environmental Regulation and Compliance and Environmental Regulation Assurance Manager.
  • Support the wider Regulation and Compliance team on matters relating to compliance and assurance processes & activities.
  • Support operational data improvement initiatives/programmes relating to submissions and compliance matters.
  • Where required, support the production and delivery of analysis for reports to internal groups and external stakeholders, such as the EA.
Requirements
  • A relevant degree and/or qualified with a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience of working with complex data analysis (for example, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, coding), ideally related to technical and regulatory matters.
  • An understanding of relevant data sets associated with clean and wastewater water regulated activities including compliance and telemetry systems.
  • Understanding of data governance principles and practices.
  • High levels of integrity and independence with excellent data and analysis skills.
  • Experience of using data analytics in improving management control and insight for compliance with regulatory obligations.
  • Excellent IT, data, report writing and written skills with the ability to produce clear, coherent reports without supervision which can be easily understood and are actionable, including by non-data experts.
