Cavendish Nuclear is seeking a highly skilled Principal Civil, Structural and Architectural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for leading projects from initial scheme and concept design to engineering and detailed design, overseeing construction, and eventual decommissioning.

The Role:

You will form a leading role within a dynamic design team undertaking traditional, bespoke, and innovative designs of reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures for defence, nuclear decommissioning, and nuclear new build projects. You will design to various normal and extreme loading scenarios, including seismic design, and provide technical leadership and expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to:

  • Deliver nuclear design work, inspections, and construction site support on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas.
  • Concept and feasibility studies for multi-discipline design projects.
  • Analysis and design using engineering software such as Tekla and Robot, as well as producing hand calculations.
  • Prepare calculations, CDM activities, basis of design, material specifications, scopes of work, technical reports, inter-discipline design coordination, and supervision.
  • Be responsible for the management of project delivery, as well as people management of Senior CS&A Engineers and CS&A Engineers.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week, and provides hybrid working arrangements with two days in the office/onsite and three days working from home. Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency while ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met.

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience in the design of structures in reinforced concrete and steelwork.
  • Previous experience within the nuclear industry and design for seismic loading would be advantageous but not necessary.
  • Awareness and experience of using the latest design codes and standards.
  • Understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

  • Degree Qualified (BEng or MEng), Civil/Structural Engineer.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of ICE or IstructE, or working towards.

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
