Job Title: Technical Manager - Automation

Bilfinger UK is a leading engineering and maintenance provider, supporting customers across various industries. We enhance the efficiency of assets, ensuring a high level of availability and reducing maintenance costs.

We have extensive experience in offshore and onshore facilities, specialising in asset management services throughout all life cycle phases. Our teams deliver projects in various industries, including Nuclear, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Metals, and Utilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and quality leadership to a team of engineers.
  • Work closely with the Head of Automation, Head of Projects, Project Managers, and Engineering teams.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of technical aspects of projects.
  • Line manage engineers, including appraisals, PDPs, one-to-ones, development & training planning, SQEP & competence management, recruitment, employee welfare & wellbeing.
  • Provide Technical Assurance and Quality Assurance.
  • Carry out Project Surveillance audits and ensure engineers follow best practice guidelines.
  • Train the team on the quality system and its use.
  • Review and update the quality system periodically and as part of continuous improvement.
  • Play an active role in internal and external audits.
  • Promote and facilitate knowledge sharing and learning from experience.
  • Promote and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Support the Head of Automation, Project Managers, and Engineers in the development and execution of project strategies.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of new technologies.
  • Identify training and recruitment requirements to meet technological advances and strategic requirements.
  • Manage OEM partnerships and support Business Development teams on opportunities.
  • Support Proposals and responsible for Industry 4.0 solution development and supporting external digitalisation projects.
Requirements:
  • A minimum 10 years' experience of integrated control system solutions.
  • Experience of delivering engineering projects in various industries.
  • Broad multi-vendor technical knowledge.
  • Experience in Technical Management or equivalent technical lead role.
  • Experience of Line Management and development of engineers.
  • Experience of working with multidiscipline project teams.
  • Experience of providing Health and Safety and Compliance leadership.
  • Experience of industrial protocols.
  • Detailed experience of the full project life cycle.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience of working within and supporting the continuous improvement of a Quality system.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and TickIT plus standards and their application.
  • Knowledge of Industry standards such as ISA95 (IEC62264), IEC62443, IEC61511, IEC61508, IEC61131, IEC61499.
  • A thorough practical appreciation of control panels, electrical installation, and Instrumentation solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Industry 4.0 solutions experience.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council (IET or equivalent professional body).
