About the Role
Guy Carpenter is seeking a highly motivated individual with applicable experience in their broking or underwriting career and looking for development opportunities to join our market-leading Credit, Bond & Political Risk Team in London, UK as a Treaty Reinsurance Broker. Within this role, you will have the chance to gain valuable experience and grow your skills in the dynamic and continuously expanding credit specialty markets. Within a supportive team structure, you will work closely with clients, underwriters, and other stakeholders to negotiate and place reinsurance contracts across a truly global marketplace. The role will also entail a significant focus on sales and business development. Key Responsibilities
- Meet with clients, as necessary, to learn their needs and maintain/develop strong relationships.
- Assist with the renewal of contracts for clients, placing business with client-approved reinsurers.
- Work in close contact with the analytics team to create bespoke client solutions.
- Negotiate with reinsurers on pricing, terms, and conditions to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
- Assist in the production of placement slips, cover notes, and contracts, as needed.
- Monitor the follow-up on contract documentation, ensuring the timely flow of materials and manage any mid-term requirements. Make significant contributions to the team's Sales & Business Development strategy, including work on RFPs and tenders.
What We Expect from You
- Visit existing clients and new prospects where appropriate. This will involve international travel.
- Lead the risk identification process in the area of credit, bond, political risk, and other associated financial risks.
- Deliver daily service to the network of GC offices and clients for the specific product line, ensuring their risk management needs are appropriately met. Implement, manage, and maintain a quality post-sales service plan where appropriate.
- Create and present renewal proposals to existing clients and participate in presentations to prospective clients.
- Stay informed about changing market conditions and inform client executives, carriers, brokers, and/or clients of major developments affecting various types of coverage.
- Identify the need for new products and suggest solutions to brokers, clients, and carriers.
- Familiarise yourself and become competent in all MMC systems and software. Adhere to Guy Carpenter's professional standards and Marsh McLennan's excellence protocols.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as economics, insurance, risk management, or finance and/or Chartered Insurance Institute qualification (Cert CII, Dip CII, ACII).
- Proven experience as an insurance/reinsurance broker or underwriter, preferably with a focus on credit, surety, and/or political risk.
- Experience working with treaty reinsurance is a significant advantage.
- Data analysis and statistical skills will be particularly useful, with the ability to create and present data in effective formats.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills to effectively interact with clients and reinsurers.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and industry leaders at all levels.
- Ability to identify and manage potential conflicts of interest, as well as handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and integrity at all times.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver under tight deadlines.
What We're Looking for
- In-depth knowledge of the credit, surety, and political risk insurance market, including key players, products, and emerging trends.
- Confidence in understanding associated risks and how to structure (re)insurance risk transfer solutions around them.
- Ability to identify market insights, trends, and then use that knowledge to advise clients on their underwriting and portfolio management strategies.
- Additional language skills would be advantageous.
