Leading Consultant Anaesthetist in High-Risk Care

We are seeking a seasoned consultant anaesthetist to join our esteemed team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. As a leading expert in high-risk care, you will play a pivotal role in providing exceptional anaesthetic services and perioperative medicine to patients in west Essex and east Hertfordshire.
About the RoleThis substantive post offers an exciting opportunity for a consultant anaesthetist to develop their skills and expertise in a dynamic and supportive environment. You will work closely with our experienced team of consultants to lead developments in anaesthetic services and perioperative medicine within the trust.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and promote multi-disciplinary team work within the speciality and those associated with critical care services.
- Take an active part in formal teaching and practical training & supervision of junior staff. Assume responsibility for professional supervision and management of non-consultant grade medical staff.
- Concern yourself with the professional development, both clinical and personal, of your trainees.
- Take part in risk management, governance activities, and other activities in the directorate.
- Take part in continuing medical education activities in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists' guidelines.
- Participate in the consultant anaesthetists on-call rota, including providing cross-cover for annual and study leave.
- Assume continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Engage in a timely fashion with departmental and trust communications, responding to emails or otherwise.
- Provide leadership for proper function of the services in your charge in line with agreed policies of the Trust.
- Develop your own specialty interests, including active participation in audit and research programmes.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of general acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services across its sites in Harlow, Bishop's Stortford, and Epping. RequirementsTo be considered for this position, you must possess:
- Full Registration with the GMC and licence to practise.
- FRCA or equivalent qualification.
- CCT (or equivalent) with entry on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or within six months of anticipated CCT date.
Prior experience in medical education, leadership roles, and research would be highly advantageous. Additionally, possessing a Management/Leadership qualification and advanced training in cardiopulmonary exercise testing would be desirable.
Estimated Salary£110,000 - £140,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
