Engineering Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior/Principal and/or Associate Level Engineering Geologists/Geotechnical Engineers to join our London office. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for continued development of more junior staff, client base, and managing geo-environmental workload across the south.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have robust technical abilities and a strong sense of customer service. They should preferably have experience in various sectors, including road and rail, industrial, residential, commercial, and leisure developments, providing technically sound and cost-effective solutions to Clients.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to expand their skill set in project management and development of junior staff, delivering projects with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, civil, and transportation. The successful candidate will have experience in client-facing roles and develop good working relationships within the wider project teams with enthusiasm towards business development and marketing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking, scoping, and reviewing Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground investigations, understanding ground investigation techniques;
  • Understanding contaminated land legislation and planning regime with support from geo-environmental specialist staff;
  • Interpretative report writing and reviewing with comprehensive understanding of ground models, geotechnical engineering properties, and soil behaviours;
  • Preparing, reviewing, and/or authorizing competent Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical Design Reports;
  • A thorough understanding of assessing and designing:
    • Temporary works (e.g., crane bases, working platforms)
    • Slope stability
    • Foundations (Shallow and deep)
    • Earthworks Specification
    • Reinforced Earthworks
    • Retaining Structures
    • Soil & Rock engineering
    • Ground improvement
    • Ground movement and settlement/subsidence
    • Mineral workings and natural cavities
    • Basement engineering
  • Considering construction techniques and constraints and value engineering appraisals;
  • Delivering projects within a multi-disciplinary consultancy, aware of structural, civil, and transport capabilities;
  • Providing technically sound and commercially focused proposals and reports based on clients' requirements;
  • Clients-facing roles, developing good working relationships with other professionals within wider project teams and enthusiasm towards business development and marketing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with a good working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, RocScience, Oasys, gINT, PLAXIS, and Wallap software.
Requirements
  • A good degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or Civil Engineering is required; an MSc in Geotechnics or Engineering Geology is beneficial but not essential. Chartered/near chartered dependent on level; PTS trained is a bonus.
