Job Description

As a Special Education Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across Key Stage 1 to 4. You will work closely with classroom teachers and SENCO to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies for students with SEN.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and assistance to students with SEN in mainstream classrooms and specialist SEN settings.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and SENCO to implement IEPs and support strategies for students with SEN.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs and abilities of students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, delivering targeted interventions to support their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist students with SEN in developing independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to provide holistic support for students with complex needs.
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents on achievements and areas for development.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.
  • Understanding of different SEN conditions, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language disorders.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
