Bakewell CP, United Kingdom Peak District National Park Authority Full time

About Us

The Peak District National Park Authority is responsible for protecting and enhancing the natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural heritage of the Peak District. We also support the economic and social wellbeing of the communities in which we work.

We are currently seeking a Minerals Planner to join our Strategic Planning and Minerals Team on a permanent basis.

The Role

As a Minerals Planner, you will be responsible for managing the economically important supply of minerals while balancing the impact on the Park's special landscape and qualities. This will involve ensuring the progressive restoration of sites and achieving biodiversity net gain. The Park has reserves of nationally important vein mineral and locally important building stone, which require careful management.

The effective management of the National Park's quarries and waste activities is crucial for achieving the aspirations in the Authority Plan, National Park Management Plan, and the Local Plan. You will also engage with members of the public and other stakeholders to advise them on Minerals matters and may attend community liaison meetings to facilitate a dialogue and working relationship between operators and the community.

A further aspect of the role will be the monitoring of compliance with planning conditions at existing Mineral sites to ensure adverse impacts are suitably controlled and that sites are restored in accordance with approved restoration plans and to a quality befitting the National Park location. You will also be required to investigate breaches of planning control, often relating to the unauthorised deposit of waste in various locations across the Park.

About You

The post is career graded, and we are looking to attract a range of candidates with experience in Minerals Planning, mainstream planning, or industry experience with transferable skills. For those less experienced in this niche, but critical sector of planning, appropriate training opportunities will be provided by the Authority.

Experience working in a local government planning authority or the private sector in a minerals/waste, development management, or enforcement role would be highly beneficial. To be successful in gaining appointment to this post, you will need to demonstrate attention to detail, quality report writing skills, the ability to make balanced judgements, and a willingness to adopt a pragmatic approach in order to achieve the purposes of the National Park.

The Benefits
  1. Local government pension scheme
  2. Flexible working
  3. Free on-site parking
  4. Work from offices based in the heart of the National Park
  5. Benefit from stunning surroundings and views on a daily basis
  6. Hybrid working arrangements
Our Values
  1. Care – We care for the Peak District National Park, the people we work with, and all those we serve. It's at the heart of everything we do.
  2. Enjoy – We take pride in what we do and feel good about our contribution.
  3. Pioneer – We were born of pioneers.
