Job Summary

This position provides comprehensive healthcare services to inmates, ensuring continuity of care from admission to discharge. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing routine, chronic, and emergency care, maintaining safe medication administration, and adhering to Department of Corrections policy and American Correctional Association standards of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform initial and ongoing medical assessments to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities
  • Prescribe appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates with their medical needs
  • Assist with preparation and modification of medical treatment plans
  • Function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and communicate effectively with staff
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working and treating in a correctional or public healthcare setting
