About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Underwriter to join our team at Pen Underwriting. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for delivering profitable premium and conversion growth across our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and assess risk, adhering to our underwriting philosophy, rules and guidelines, and using rating tools and pricing methodologies to maximise business growth and profitability.
  • Actively participate in seeking new business opportunities within existing relationships and within the wider insurance market.
  • Provide expert underwriting guidance, coaching and mentoring to less experienced underwriters, helping them build product-specific knowledge and sales skills.
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships across the regions and contribute to the team's goal of writing a sustainable portfolio of professional indemnity business.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and threats.
About You
  • Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification is preferred.
  • You have a working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace and can demonstrate an ability and desire to learn about our enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
  • You have a general knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures, and effectively employ that knowledge in your day-to-day work activities.
  • You possess basic analytical thinking and financial acumen, identifying current or future problems or opportunities, analysing, synthesising and comparing information to understand issues, identifying cause/effect relationships, and exploring alternatives to support sound decision-making.
