Job Title: Laboratory Manager/Coordinator

Reports to: Head of Product Development

Location: Manchester Science Park

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Manager/Coordinator to join our team at Yourgene Health. The successful candidate will provide support to product development teams, ensuring the organization of laboratory areas and key processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with scientists to create and implement processes to maintain/improve laboratory productivity.
  2. Work with R&D scientists to ensure laboratory areas are maintained to a high standard.
  3. Review existing laboratory processes to identify areas for improvement.
  4. Implement LEAN processes to optimize laboratory efficiency.
  5. Liaise with R&D scientists to ensure the implementation of equipment maintenance rotas.
  6. Coordinate processes to maintain/improve the condition of product development laboratory spaces.
  7. Organize required laboratory maintenance.
  8. Liaise with Facilities to coordinate repairs to laboratory areas as needed.
  9. Prepare COSHH and risk assessments.
  10. Implement/monitor effective waste disposal processes.
  11. Work with other team members to administer temperature monitoring systems.
  12. Own equipment management in product development laboratories.
  13. Work with Quality Assurance to review and maintain internal equipment/asset database.
  14. Liaise with external contractors to organize equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
  15. Manage reagent and consumable inventory and procurement.
  16. Create, maintain, and improve laboratory SOPs.

Requirements:

  1. Degree or further degree in a life science such as molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics.
  2. Typically 5+ years of relevant experience working in an ISO accredited laboratory (experience of laboratory management is preferable).
  3. Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.
  4. Experience preparing COSHH forms and process risk assessments.
  5. Ability to review/analyze data.
  6. Enthusiasm, drive, thoroughness, diligence, and a willingness to take personal responsibility to ensure project success.
