Job Summary:

The Digital Library Assistant will work with the Digital Preservation Coalition team to manage and make available online the Coalition's digital collections, particularly those originated from digitisation projects. The role involves all aspects of managing digital collections, including describing them, arranging for digitisation, uploading them to our Digital Asset Management System and making them available online.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the Coalition's extensive and varied digital collections
  • Work with colleagues to assist with the description and management of digital collections
  • Collaborate with the Digital Assets Manager and other teams to achieve key strategic goals for the Coalition
  • Maintain high standards in the management of both physical and digital collections

Requirements:

  • Good IT skills and experience working with digital files and their metadata
  • Ability to work with a range of colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Working with Digital Collections:

The Digital Library Assistant will work with a range of digital collections, including digitised materials, born-digital materials, and digital surrogates. The role will involve working with colleagues to describe and manage these collections, ensuring that they are accurately and consistently described, and that they are made available online in a way that is accessible and usable by users.

Collaboration and Communication:

The Digital Library Assistant will work closely with colleagues across the Coalition to achieve key strategic goals. This will involve collaborating with the Digital Assets Manager and other teams to ensure that digital collections are accurately described and made available online. The role will also involve communicating with stakeholders, including users, to ensure that their needs are met and that they are able to access and use digital collections effectively.
