District Operations Manager

Waste Connections of Canada Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced District Manager to lead our operations in Peterborough, ON.
About the Role:The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive business growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction. This includes:
- Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations;
- Full P&L responsibility, including developing annual business plans and budgets;
- Developing strategic operations plans to support growth strategies and optimize working capital;
- Leading a team of approximately 50 operational employees, including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance;
- Monitoring and reporting district financial results, including safety targets, sales growth, and process optimization;
- Negotiating or guiding negotiations of disposal and transportation costs and third-party transfer station arrangements to optimize tons to landfills;
- Reviewing new/lost business, service increases/decreases, and impact on margin and volume with the sales manager;
- Implementing organizational structure and succession plans to meet business plan and people development objectives;
- Providing training, coaching, goal setting, and reviews of direct reports to optimize performance;
- Reviewing and approving District Controllers monthly forecasts and other reports required by corporate office;
- Identifying strategic acquisition candidates and negotiating transactions;
- Ensuring appropriate plans are in place to facilitate integration and meet pro-forma targets;
- Identifying potential business partners, e.g., third-party transfer stations, and negotiating partnership/joint venture agreements to assist in meeting plan goals;
- Participating in industry conferences, associations, and other networking venues as appropriate;
- Developing relationships and liaising with key partners in municipal government, e.g., mayor, waste division, to understand landscape, deal with emerging issues, and address environmental and waste concerns.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior operations management and/or sales management role;
- Prior transportation/logistics experience is an asset;
- Post-secondary degree, preferably in business/commerce;
- Excellent planning, strategy, and analytical skills;
- Highly developed leadership and entrepreneurial skills;
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills;
- Proven track record in meeting business plan objectives;
