Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Helio Display Materials Full time
Job Description

About Helio Display Materials:

We're a pioneering company crafting the fundamental materials that will shape the future of displays. Our team is dedicated to developing innovative materials that enable the creation of brighter, more vibrant displays with remarkably low power consumption.

About the Role:

We're seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist to join our Core materials team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and optimising colloidal chemistry processes, surface functionalisation techniques, and ligand exchange methodologies to achieve specific performance characteristics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise colloidal chemistry processes for material coating, stabilisation, and modification.
  • Tailor post-treatment protocols to control porosity, mechanical strength, and chemical stability of core-shell derived materials.
  • Design and implement strategies for surface functionalisation of nanocrystals with inorganic coatings.
  • Modify surface chemistry to achieve desired properties such as photoluminescence efficiency, light and thermal stability, and colloidal stability.
  • Develop and perform ligand exchange protocols to tune the surface chemistry of nanomaterials, particularly for colloidal stability, solubility, and reactivity.
  • Investigate interactions between various ligands and nanomaterial surfaces to enhance performance.
  • Characterise and analyse the structural, optical, and chemical properties of materials and ligand exchange using various analytical techniques.
  • Analyse experimental data, generate technical reports, and present findings to key stakeholders.
  • Stay current with literature and advancements in the fields of colloidal chemistry, surface science, and nanomaterial engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and provide ideas and solutions.

Requirements:

  • PhD or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience (postdoctoral or industry) in related fields.
  • Expertise with colloidal chemistry processes such as sol-gel, microemulsion, inverse or micelle formation, etc.
  • Expertise within inorganic surface modifications and surface functionalisation using post-treatment techniques and/or ligand exchange.
  • Strong background in nanomaterials.
  • Proficiency in utilising advanced characterisation tools such as XRD, TEM/SEM, FTIR, NMR, and TGA.
  • Proven ability to independently design and execute complex experimental plans.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in presenting technical data to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Advantage:

  • Knowledge of Perovskite materials.
