The finance shared services and tax team operates within the broader Finance department, under the oversight of the CFO of Great Lakes London and Munich Re UK Services Limited. The team provides services to the Great Lakes entities and other Munich Re UK group companies and branches.



About the Role:



We are seeking a qualified accountant to join our financial reporting team – taking ownership and responsibility for preparing statutory financial statements (UK GAAP) and IFRS reports for Munich Re UK Services Limited, while working closely with our auditors to provide a key liaison point throughout the statutory audit process. This role also involves providing guidance to key stakeholders, including CFOs, across the entities we support with general finance matters, budgetary advice, and cost control recommendations, collaborating closely with our cost controlling team members. This would be an exciting opportunity for an accountant looking for their first in-house role after qualifying in an accounting firm or seeking a move to another in-house position.



The team delivers accounting services to entities generating approximately £3.7 billion in premiums annually. You will report directly to the Head of Tax and Financial Shared Services UK and work in a hybrid working environment.



Responsibilities:




  • To process financial transactions in the general ledger (for both the Group (IFRS) and local (UK GAAP) ledger)
  • To prepare management accounts and statutory financial statements on a quarterly/annual basis
  • To prepare the Group reporting deliverables on a quarterly basis
  • To collaborate with the tax team on ensuring accurate capture of tax accounting data in the general ledger (including VAT/IPT)
  • To serve as a key go-to person in the finance team for CFOs, capable of providing expert advice while working closely with teams like cost controlling who handle detailed figures
  • To assess the impact of any future changes in accounting standards
  • To ensure the completion/review of financial control activities
  • To assist in fulfilling external audit requirements
  • To be responsible for preparing and reviewing quarter-end audit files for Munich Re UK Services Limited
