About the Role

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Chemotherapy Nurse to join our team in the NGS Macmillan Unit. As a key member of our chemotherapy service, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals affected by cancer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior staff in providing individualized nursing care to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
  • Support the team in achieving chemotherapy services, ensuring the safe handling, administration, and disposal of anti-cancer therapy.
  • Use a holistic patient-centered approach to achieve objectives and provide support to relatives/carers while supporting patients through their cancer journey.
  • Hold a current UKONS SACT passport or have up-to-date, equivalent anti-cancer therapy training.
  • Be proficient in nurse-led interventions such as venepuncture, cannulation, and management of Central Venous Access devices.

Person Specification

Essential

  • RGN Qualified - Registered Nurse
  • NMC professional registration
  • Competencies in the management of Central Venous Access Devices

Desirable

  • Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Passport or equivalent training
  • Advanced Communication course or equivalent
  • Mentorship qualification

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Proficient in nurse-led interventions such as venepuncture, cannulation, and management of Central Venous Access devices
  • Effective communication skills
  • Organized and prioritizes workload
  • Awareness and passion for working with patients affected by cancer

Desirable

  • Knowledge of extravasation and anaphylaxis
  • Understanding of current issues in healthcare cancer care
  • Knowledge of Haematology, Oncology, and/or patients with cancer
  • Knowledge of the side effects of anti-cancer therapy
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy/anti-cancer drugs
  • Knowledge and understanding of managing infusion-related reactions and extravasation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a cancer care setting or chemotherapy ward/department, or in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience of understanding nursing processes, assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a nurse-led environment
  • Able to deal with exposure to bereavement and challenging patients and relatives
